The Vampire Diaries

I've currently finished the book The Vampire Diaries by my favorite female author, L.J. Smith.  I'm getting really tired of vampire books, but L.J. Smith can make you want to read them over and over again.  The other books I've read by her include the Night World series.  When I read The Vampire Diaries it seemed like Stephenie Meyer bit off of it for Twilight, and it can't be the other way around because The Vampire Diaries came out in 1991 long before Twilight was made.  The story centers around Elena Gilbert, a high school girl torn between two vampire brothers.  he first book introduces the reader to Elena Gilbert, a beautiful and popular high school student in the small town of Fall's Church in Virginia, her friends: Bonnie, Meredith, Matt, and Caroline, Elena's old friend who now is her competition. As their senior year begins, Elena pursues the mysterious new guy in town, Stefan Salvatore. Stefan's resistance is met with Elena's determination, and she eventually discovers his secret: that Stefan is a centuries-old vampire. As Elena and Stefan fall in love, strange attacks begin to happen in the town while a dark and seductive stranger appears to Elena. Elena eventually learns that the stranger is Stefan's older brother Damon.

It's also going to be adapted into a television series:  "On February 6, 2009, Variety announced that The CW Television Network greenlighted the pilot for The Vampire Diaries with Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec set as the writers and executive producers.[5] On May 19, 2009, the pilot was officially ordered to series for the 2009-2010 season.[6] The series cuts a few characters and changes the looks of others. Filming for the series began in July 2009 in Covington, Georgia. The shots of the high school and football scenes were produced at Monroe Career Academy."
